Return to school

April 7th, 2008 No comments

Normal school service resumed today after the two week Easter break and in fairness DDWT Junior was in a relatively co-operative mood when it came to getting ready.

We anticipated a rougher ride as it was a very restless night all round – as always seems to be the case before going back to school. Still he went along happy enough and seemed to enjoy his first day back – telling everyone about Legoland and beetle castles no doubt!

The lack of a decent night’s sleep also affected my memory, as upon getting to work I remembered that the gang were going to the Oriental Garden – Chinese restaurant on Swansea Marina – for lunch. Trouble was I was already armed with my full-to-the-brim lunchbox and didn’t have any cash. Bah humbug.

So what did I do, go and ride my bike instead! It was cold to say the least and I was glad to get back to the office after the 9.73 mile ride – which took 39 minutes 45 seconds, 18.9 mph max
and 14.6 mph average speed).

That’ll teach me to forget about a work’s lunch ;-)

Rome wasn't built in a day…

… and in a similar vein, I’m not going to lose weight overnight either! But at least today saw a step in the right direction with me going for a lunchtime run, or perhaps jog would be a more appropriate word for it.

I did a 16 minute 37 second stint along the beach at Swansea bay – one of the pleasures and advantages of working just a stone throw away. I didn’t particularly enjoy it, not because it was hard (it wasn’t) but because I knew I was starting out all over again. This was a journey I’d already undertaken back in January 2006 and I’m annoyed to say the least that I’ve left myself go (albeit to not quite such a lump).

No doubt being back in work after a week long holiday didn’t help my overall mood either but at least with it still being Easter half-term in these parts, lots of people are still off – which ultimately means some spare time to play catch-up on other bits of work.

DDWT Junior finally got his Apollo Moonman bike today after it finally arrived in stock at our local Halfords store.

Bad habit

February 20th, 2008 No comments

Yes indeed. I’ve got into that awful habit of making draft posts in blogger – with the intention of completing the post later – but somehow never find the time to go back and finish them off.

So if you’re wondering why this blog has got more holes than a moth ridden blanket then you’ll now understand why. One day I’ll get around to putting some context onto the key points I’ve made in each draft post and I’ll publish them – by which time it’ll be totally irrelevant of course.

I decided to try my luck on the bike again today – the 2nd time this week woooo hoooo – as I slowly build myself up to get back into the ‘groove’ of my training. I headed off down to Forte’s ice cream parlour in Limeslade, a 11.7 mile round trip which took me 44 minutes 19 seconds. That included navigating the TWO sets of traffic lights just past Verdi’s and on Big Apple hill!! My max speed was 21.5 mph and I averaged 14.9 mph.

As for the conditions well it was overcast/murky/foggy and as a result it felt rather chilly – despite there being very little wind. At least it meant that there weren’t many human obstacles about – well other than the ones whom are oblivious to the world around them due to having headphones in.

But hey, I’ll take about the health and safety issues of that another time LOL.

Storytime

December 17th, 2007 No comments

Going back to work after a weekend off is usually a rather mundane and somewhat depressing affair, this wasn’t the case today however.

With THE party having passed everyone by on Friday, it was storytime today with everything catching up on the gossip from what is always an eventful afternoon/evening. It also made me realise that I more than lived up to my nickname of ‘snakehips’, as apparently I was shakin’ my ass to most of the discs being spun :)

Mind you that’s quite tame to some of the reports of heard of other peoples antics *blush*

It was nice to take DDWT Junior to school again – as per Friday – and even more of a delight to see all of the things he’s made this term. From tree decorations to candles, chocolate to cards, each one was fantastic and a treat to see. It made us proud to be his Mam and Dad and it was a real treat to see his little face light up with excitement when showing us his work. It’s hard to believe that he’ll be 4 in January – where have the past 3 years gone?

Rather than do a training session at lunchtime today, I opted to ride my bike back home in readiness for the impending Christmas break. I swear the 9.21 mile ride was one of the coldest I’ve had this year as the bracing northerly wind made the temperature indeed feel like the -7 wind chill forecast. My journey took me 45 minutes and 28 seconds with a top speed of 19.6 mph.

I think I’ve only just thawed out!

Christmas party #2

December 14th, 2007 No comments

I warmed up – if that’s what you can call it – for my 2nd Christmas party by going for a 17.38 mile bike ride this lunchtime.

On top of my usual Gowerton trip I also took a detour down Mumbles as well, just to bump them miles up a bit. The vital statistics of my spin were a top speed of 21.5 mph and a total time of 1 hour 10 minutes and 12 seconds. It was bitterly cold and I’m already regretting the decision not to bring a ‘going out’ coat with me for later DOH.

We’re due to go for a drink at around 4pm before heading off to the MAIN party later.

More later – maybe ;)
