Another lovely sunny day here in Swansea meant that my lunchtime run was most enjoyable. Well what I mean to say is that the conditions were enjoyable, even if the pain I felt going round wasn’t! There’s not much gas in my tank at the moment, but at least by being in bed that wee bit earlier last night meant I didn’t quite feel as zonked today.
Razor and I had to change our running route once again – due to work still being done on Trafalgar Bridge – and our little detour ensured that we broke the 30 minutes barrier, albeit by just 19 seconds.
For those of you with young children – whom happen to have a fascination with dinosaurs like DDWT Junior – let me present the perfect fashion accessory, as found by Mrs DDWT in George at Asda (Morfa Swansea branch).
These plush £6 slippers – known as ‘Leftie’ and ‘Rightie’ – are a must have for any dinosaur loving nipper and an extremely useful bargaining tool for any child whom refuses to wear shoes/slippers/booties or whatever item of footwear.
Despite feeling zonked after yesterday’s exploits on Merseyside, I managed to remember the all important Sunday date with the weighing scale in our bathroom.
I really wish I’d forgotten in retrospect after having seen the 16st 10lbs digits on display. I graciously accepted Mrs DDWT’s supportive suggestion of “Well you did eat quite late last night when you came back from the football”. Yes, I’ll take that as an excuse thank you very much. So beasting it is for me this week then – not that I’m obsessed with my weight of course *raised eyebrows*
With it being March and such like, it always heralds the first lawnmower outing of the season and so with the sun shining I decided to give the petrol guzzling monster a run out. As is the norm (for the 1st run each year) the darn thing wouldn’t start – more to do with a dodgy starter pully than anything else I hasten to add. Some 20 minutes of WD40′ing, tweaking this, twonking that and getting blisters on my hands later, I finally got it started and duly got the lawn cut.
After having done the donkey work outside, we decided to go to Fendrod lake this afternoon for us to have a nice family walk and for DDWT Junior to feed the ducks. Unfortunately for DDWT Junior, he fell asleep on the way there and didn’t see anything!

With the sun shining brightly outside I decided to take full advantage and do some of the many outstanding jobs on my ‘todo’ list – whilst I had the chance. First up was to repair some of the vertical panels in our fence (which actually belongs to next door). The irony being that the panels are coming off the fence due to the lad next door kicking his football against it. Oh well it’s your fence mate and I wouldn’t really bother repairing it except that it looks sh*tty the way it is!
The 2nd job and ultimately all the more messy and irritating sort of way (due to sneezing), is repairing our darn Dyson DC07 cleaner, again. It’s amazing really how much dust it actually collects – well until it cuts out and gives up the ghost that is. Anyway, a thorough cleaning and hose down with a jet spray usually gives its vital organs a damn good makeover! I also decided to replace the HEPA filter – only the 2nd one in the erm 8 or so years we’ve had the contraption.
We headed off to Fforestfach in the afternoon for some low cost retail therapy – i.e we look but don’t buy! We spend most of our time there in Borders having a good look at the cast array of books they have, especially childrens. It was quite amusing actually that whilst I was reading ‘The Gruffalo’ to DDWT Junior, I quickly had an audience of about 2 or 3 other children – much to my amazement. Oh well, if ever I give up on the world of computing I could always go into storytelling *wink*
It’s been an odd week on the whole, not because we’ve all had the flu, but because I’ve watched so much tv and films in particular. This in itself is a rarity and I hardly EVER watch television (only sports TV) let alone several nights of it. This week I’ve managed to clock up watching – The Honeymooners (don’t bother), The Manchurian Candidate (quality Denzil W flick) and Good Morning Vietnam (a Robin Williams classic).
In fact I quite enjoyed my ‘change of lifestyle’ (ha ha) and even said to Mrs DDWT that we should watch at least one film a week from now on, she just looked at me raised an eyebrow and smiled. I don’t know what she means.
With my cold beginning to take a hold on me today, my stint in work was rather short lived as I got sent packing by the bossman and the office girlies – mainly for fear of infecting them with my germs. Charming eh. I mean what sort of rest or recuperation am I likely to get at home with the marauding DDWT Junior about *smile*
The surprise of seeing his daddy home at lunchtime rather than the usual 6pm was greated with much pleasure and excitement and for me it was a lovely tonic as I really did feel like sh*t. An afternoon snooze soon followed – which was bliss!
The downside of any afternoon kip though as I’m sure most of you will agree, is the fact that you can’t get to sleep at night time then. Which is why I’m blogging now rather than sleeping.
My Valentine’s day planning went into overdrive today and I finally got a place sorted for Mrs DDWT and I to have a splendid romantic evening at a venue which I shall disclose on the very day – it is a surprise after all. I’ve even got the babysitter sorted (Nana DDWT), all that’s left for me to do now is get a gift (which for once I know what I want) and a card. Bingo – job done and unlike most blokes I’m actually organised for once!
On the subject of sentiment, it was with a tear in my eye today that I heard DDWT Junior utter those immortal words for any working dad – “I miss you Daddy”. I could have melted on the spot, it was a very special moment which I will always remember – especially as it was the 1st time he’s ever said it.
My training session (15) today was a 14 mile ride down to Gowerton along Cycle Route 4. It made a refreshing change from Limeslade and perhaps more notably I didn’t have the wind in my face to act as a major de-motivator (well not as much as it would be if I’d have been cycling along the seafront. Talking of bikes, one of my work colleagues sent me an email today about cycling holidays – great idea I thought, until I saw these pictures!

I’m on leave again tomorrow so am looking forward to spending some quality time at home with the family and catching up on stuff – like giving my bike a damn good clean. I’m going to try and fit in some serious PS2 gaming as well – so ‘Call of Duty‘ here I come!
