Having spent the best part of two whole weeks travelling around France watching Wales during the Euro 2016 Tournament – and witnessing the wins over Slovakia, Northern Ireland and Belgium in the process – the month of June and partly July were all a bit of a blur.
Of course seeing your country get to the semi-finals of a major tournament, on the back of them not having qualified for one since 1958, tends to have that effect on most (football-loving) people I’d imagine.
Sadly the dream of reaching the Euro 2016 Final in Paris evaporated in Lyon, as Portugal eased to a 2 nil victory and I was left to ponder what might have been.
Despite the disappointment, I had a sense of pride and achievement, especially having enjoyed at first hand the demolition of Belgium in the Quarter-Finals – a side (then) ranked 2nd in the world!
After the semi-final defeat, the post-Euro (football!) exit blues were in full swing but one short congratulatory email cheered me up no end.
It came from Sophie Johnson of Affiliate Window, the UKs largest Affiliate Network, about a competition I’d entered way back in early June to win an Euro 2016 jersey of my choice.
Yep you’ve guessed it, I’d only gone and won the competition they’d run with Kitbag.com – whom stock one of the largest range of football kits online.
Now seeing as I already have numerous football jerseys in my wardrobe, I did the honourable thing and asked my football mad 12 year old son which Euro 2016 team jersey he’d like instead.
Being spoilt for choice, he eventually opted for either a France or Germany shirt… but much to his disappointment both were now sold out.
Thankfully after a quick email exchange with the guys at Affiliate Window and the lovely Mia Harding at Kitbag HQ, we managed to move the goalposts and opt for him to choose another jersey of his choice, but this time from the entire Kitbag range instead!
And here he is wearing the winning jersey – that of 2015–16 UEFA Champions League runners up Atlético Madrid.
Both he and I would like to say a huge thank you to Sophie and Ben at Affiliate Window and especially Mia at Kitbag for organising the competition and the best part of all – the prize 🙂
